Project Description
The MUN project stands for Model United Nations. This is a conference that replicates the way United Nations conferences take place on an international level. The United Nations is an international committee made up of 193 counties from around the world. These countries meet in the UN to discuss issues happening and try to come up with peaceful resolutions to the worlds issues.
During this conference, each student was assigned a committee and country that they would be taking the role of for the project and conference. I took on the role of Syria in the World Health Organization (WHO). In our committee, our topic to speak about was mental health & nutrition in refugee.

Article Link
This article helped me gain a general understanding of Syria and their issues that they are facing for their refugee crisis. I personally had a clear understanding for the issue because of the previous project we had done, but the source it came from was impressive. This article came from a very reliable source, the UNHCR, which is a committee that is directly connected to the United Nations. Here is the link: UNHCR Article
Position Paper
The position paper is the first thing our chair and co-chair would see from each delegate in the conference, basically our first impression of how prepared or unprepared we were as far as research and our countries opinions. The chair and co-chair are our committee's moderators, meaning that they guide our committee's discussions. A position paper presents to your chair and co-chair your countries position to the issue that is being discussed. Here is the link: Position Paper
Opening Speech
Our opening speech is the first thing that your committee hears from you, a first impression that presents your country's viewpoint on the issue at hand, how it is affecting your country that you are portraying, and your country's plan for action. Here is the link: Opening Statement
Experience & Key Moments
During this project, I was most proud of myself for the way I represented my country of Syria. I took on a huge role in my committee because we were speaking about the Syrian refugee crisis specifically, so the issue revolved around my opinions and statements. I spoke up often to be actively apart of the discussions and used my research to guide my statements. I was very proud specifically because my hard work paid off and I was able to win "The Best Delegate" award from my committee.
Specific moments from my committee that I will remember when thinking back to this project was when Somalia was trying to convince the committee that their country and other smaller countries had bigger issues than Syria. This statement did not sit will with Syria and it's allies because of the fact that the Syrian crisis is the biggest humanitarian issue in the world.
