Submerged

Almost losing my dad was the most traumatic and vivid memories of my childhood. While in the beginning of this project I was closed off to speaking about this, I later discovered that my power is being able to realize the value others hold and the value of life itself. I am visually expressing where my power comes from by using elements from my story of when my dad had gotten sick with emphysema, which is when pus accumulates in the area between the lungs and the inner surface of the chest wall. I placed lungs submerged in water to represent this illness. I turned the inside of the lungs into roots and plants are growing out of them relating them to the idea of growth and perseverance. Working through this project has helped me turn what was once a horrible memory, into a lesson to appreciate everyone and everything because life can be taken away any moment.
