Fingerprints were deposited on thermal paper from May 15th-19th, and also on the 22nd. Each day, the fingerprints were deposited on the strips of thermal paper with the following substances: amino acid standard, lotion, or unprepared fingerprints. Each piece of thermal paper consisted of five prints down the center of the paper. Prints were deposited on the front of the thermal paper and a second strip prints were deposited on the back. The strips were cut in half and each deposited print was processed using one of the two formulas.

When all of our prints were collected for the validation study, we had to cut each strip in half because we were creating two different 1,2-indanedione solutions: one with Zinc and the other without Zinc. Our goal with this was to see which out of the two solutions made the latent prints appear brighter under the florescent light while photographing our prints.

Most days around lunch time, our friends that were interning across the street from us at the City Buildings would meet up with us for lunch in the park. We always looked forward to lunch time because it was a way of debriefing, acting silly, and spending time with people we knew best before returning to our professional setting.
|
After lunch, we would return the lab with about two hours left in our day. Once all of the prints were processed and developed, the next step was photographing them under the florescent light. This is when we would be able to evaluate, analyze, and make our call as to which solution makes the prints brighter.
